10 Attainable Non-Dieting Magic Tricks

TOP 10 NON-DIETING TRICKS THAT WILL WORK FOR YOU!!

Instead of “DIETING” try these:

1. Figure out your WHI (WHY)…
Why do you want to lose weight and get healthy?  If you start with a reason (that really means something to you) you will be that much more motivated to achieve your goals!  EX: To have more energy to play with your kids, pets, hubby (whomever), to avoid the afternoon slump, to fit into that favorite pair of jeans because they make you feel HAPPI, to improve a chronic illness…what is your WHY? Figure it out and write it down.

2. Get over the idea of PERFECT…
this word should not exist in a healthy/HAPPI life.  Once you get over the fact that everything on your health journey has to be “perfect” you will leap over your mountain (your mountain being the obstacles that get in the way of you and your health goals). If you lose track of your goal one evening at dinner or one day at the beach or one day at work, guess what….IT’S OK.  You pick up the next day and start fresh.  Don’t give up on achieving and working towards your goals if you have one or two rough days, realize that that is life and if you needed that quick break from your current plan “diet” to get back on track then do what works for you!

3. Always stay plugged in! 
Follow, read, click, listen, study about the healthy lifestyle you are interested in.  Fill your life with information and people who are interested in the healthy life you are interested in.  These words, pictures, stories, people are your motivators.  If you read, listen or look at things that are not important to you or that even make you angry you will be angry….BUT if you choose to fill your life with the things that make you HAPPI you will be HAPPI and excited to continue on your health journey.

4. Focus on the positives.
Do not think about what you are taking away from your life, instead focus on what you can add.  What is something or someway to incorporate something new or different into your life?  How can you improve your day by doing just one thing different and better today? EX: Tell someone that is important in your life (coffee barista, grocery store employee, sandwich maker) thank you for smiling at you each day! (seems kinda strange, but it’s the strange things that you do that will effect you the most)  Pay for the coffee for the person behind you in line, leave a note on the trash can for the garbage collectors…WHAT WOULD WE DO WITHOUT THEM????  Notice how you feel when you do nice things….it’s AMAZING what being nice will do for your spirits, and when you’re HAPPI you will feel FIT and FULL!!

5. Choose exercises that make you HAPPI. 
Don’t do the exercises that you dread… do the exercises that you look forward to.EX: Dancing in the kitchen, going for a walk in the neighborhood, yoga outside in nature, a group Zumba class…Chances are if you devote your health journey to cardio and training that doesn’t interest you or that you do not like you WILL NOT stick with it…CHOOSE EXERCISES THAT YOU LOOK FORWARD TO!

6. TALK, talk to people about your new health journey.
The more you involve others in your journey…the more likely you are to stick with it, and it’s FUN!!!  these people are accountability partners for you and you never know whose life you could help change.  EX: Start by swapping healthy meal recipes with a friend or family member, ask a friend to go for a walk (or a dance) with you, start a challenge with a friend on which of you can walk more steps in your day, have your person text you a picture of their dinner every day (who wants to send a picture of an unhealthy meal to someone…EMBARRASSING!!!).

7. Exercise SELF-LOVE, always take a bit of YOU time every day.
Learn to appreciate yourself and what you are trying to accomplish.  Find something positive about yourself and focus on it for one complete minute, write it down, say it to yourself, pray about it, meditate on it…whatever you need to do, DO IT!!  Learning to love who you are can be difficult, but it can change everything.  Feeling good about yourself and who you are could be the boost you need on this health journey!

8. Decide how you beat stress. 
What calms you down when you are in a stressful situation?  Walking? Talking? Breathing? Praying? Meditating? This is for all of my emotional eaters out there…once you figure out how to combat stress and distress with alternatives other than food, you will be well on your way to combatting that mountain on front of you!

9. Catching your ZZZZZ’s.
Bedtime routines are not just for children anymore.  Start a bedtime routine TONIGHT.  The calmer you are before you go to bed the better you will sleep, the better sleep that you get, the more rested you will feel in the morning, the more rested you feel the more you will accomplish throughout your day (including getting your FUN workout in) and the HAPPIER you will feel all day long!  EX: don’t let your phone be the last thing you look at before you close your eyes, do a proper “bedtime face washing routine” (as my 18 YO calls it) every night, say your prayers, do a relaxation body scan (close your eyes and slowly relax every muscle group in your body) whatever it takes to make you feel 100% relaxed when you lay your head on that pillow!

10. Measuring your Success. 
There are many ways to measure whether or not you have accomplished your goals.  If you’re a journal peep, read back through your entries to see where you are now compared to where you started, put on your favorite pair of jeans that were a little snug…if they fit comfortably now then you are WINNING!  If you are able to walk for 30 minutes now where a month ago it was only 15 …WIN!, If you are able to list off 10 things you LOVE about yourself instead of 5…WIN!!  Figure out a unique way that works for you to measure your success…(the scale is OK, but realize that some people’s weight fluctuates 1-5 pounds throughout the day!!!!)
